Beat the Heat: How to Stay Cool for July 4th

Beat the Heat

Summer is almost here, so you know what that means. Soaring temperatures, cookouts and July 4th! But in areas where the mercury hits over 100 on average, keeping your home cool while enjoying the festivities can be challenging.

To make things a little easier, we’ve put together a checklist to help you stay cool all summer long.

Keep the Doors Closed

Whether you're at home celebrating or at another venue, the best way to keep cool air inside is to close the door. Yes, we did just say that. You'd be surprised how often people forget to close the door, even when the HVAC system is running. Make it a point to keep all external doors closed.

Dress in Light Layers

Staying cool, especially in July, takes planning. Sure, you could throw on a tank top and shorts, but what happens if you go inside and find yourself freezing from the AC? The best way to prepare for rapidly changing temperatures is to dress in layers. Unless it's 102, at which point you'll probably welcome sub-zero temps, play it safe and dress in light layers you can easily add and remove.

Schedule Seasonal HVAC Maintenance

With summer fun in full swing, maintaining your HVAC is probably the last thing on your mind. However, when you least expect it, your AC may stop working. Ward off potential problems by scheduling seasonal maintenance with Ardmore Fresh Air. Our HVAC professional will inspect and identify any potential issues your system may have.

Eat Ice Cream

Who says you can't eat ice cream for dinner? No one feels like cooking when it's hot outside. Beat the heat and have a scoop of your favorite ice cream instead. Just be sure you work out the next day.

Take a Dip

What could be better than jumping into a pool on July 4? If the heat is too intense, even dipping your feet help keep you cool. In fact, you can also douse your head with the garden hose to beat the heat.

Pull the Shades

Keep your home cool by pulling down the shades. Even with the air conditioning running, it can be tricky to keep it cool. Blocking out the sun during the hottest periods of the day not only reduces energy consumption, but also save you money on your utility bills.

Staying cool may not be easy, but it's definitely possible. Find creative and find ways to beat the heat. If you like to know more ways to stay cool this summer, contact one of our HVAC professionals at Ardmore Fresh Air today. Call us now at (847) 588-2400!
